Day at the fair

Well actually I only spent part of the morning there. Too much fair is a bad thing. The crowds and the commercial selling of pots, pans and magical sweeping devices kind of wear on me. Plus when you aren't much into rides there isn't much to do.
I did see some good exhibits. I went to the Our Body: The Universe Within exhibit. It was fascinating. It was weird though to realize that they are real human bodies though. They don't allow photos in the exhibit.
Of course I saw the usual amount of fair things. Bright toys, farm animals, and rides. I didn't take very many animal pictures because they usually place them head first into the stalls and once you have seen one cow's back end you've seen enough.

One of the coolest things were these stilt walkers dressed as flowers. I don't know why but I was really captivated by them.

There was also a wonderful display of Kimonos. I'll edit those pics and post them later this week.

Fabric Sneak Peek

I spent this last Sunday buying fabric for making items with fall. Just in time for the holidays. Now that I have my fabrics it means I have my work cut out for me.
Just going to give you a sneak peek at some of what I got. I am so excited and just have so many ideas on what to make with this.

Organized and a Nice Surprise

A couple weeks ago I decided to take on the monumental challenge of organizing my fabrics. For the most part I had them somewhat organized at least by type of material. I decided that I really needed to step up my game and get better control of it. I have an old dresser and an old dresser/armoire that I use for fabric storage. They are actually plenty big without having a great deal of space in them. I decided if I folded my fabric and placed it so it was standing on it's side in the drawers I would be able to see it better. I started by first setting aside fabrics that had coordinated prints for lining. These were all placed in one drawer. I, then, separated the remaining fabrics into what type of lining they'd most likely get such was white, brown, grey, black and then misc. I got my cottons, denims, corduroy and home dec weight fabrics neatly put away. I still have to deal with my wools, hand dyed kimono fabrics and more formal fabrics. After that I really want to figure out the best way to store the small stuff like the tools and what not. Just dealing with the cottons is a start.

Then today as I was sitting down to work on this blog post I decided to check out my etsy shop stats. I had a large number hits being attributed to this one website. I looked it up on google and then translated it. Turns out it is some sort of Hungarian website and they featured my laptop bag in their 2012 Fall Trends write up on Girly Laptop Bags.

Sewing Machine

I was sitting here today working on my budget for fabric shopping before the holiday sales start. I couldn't figure out why my budget was so small. I had forgotten that I had to buy a new to me sewing machine in the spring. A worthy investment but it was unexpected at the time.

This Is Halloween

I love halloween. of course The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies. But I digress, the whole point of this blog posting today is to announce that my halloween tech covers are being made. Not as we speak because I can't type and sew at the same time but I am working hard to get them made and listed for the most popular devices that I make covers for.
This year I have classic movie monsters, nightshade witches, the ghastlies, and patchwork owls. Plus I had some spiders web mesh type material which looks great over solid cotton. All these designs and more can be found in my etsy shop.

Spring Sale

It's spring time which means it is time to clean out the studio and make room for new designs and creations. In an effort to get this huge task done I have created a Spring Sale section in my etsy shop. Starting on March 24th through April 21st you will be able to save 50% on items in this section. They will already be marked down so you don't have to remember a coupon code or wait for a paypal refund. Most are handbags, purses, messenger bags but there are a few iPad covers in there too.

Also, I have started listing some items on TopHatter which is a live auction site. You can view some of my upcoming lots by checking out my TopHatter Profile.
I hope you jump at the chance to get a great bag at a really amazing price.

2012 - The New Year

What a busy holiday season I had. A busy holiday season means brand new fabrics. I thought I'd show off some of what I have purchased recently. I have much more available than this. We'd be here all day if I showed everything I have right now.
Zig-Zag prints in yellow/white, green/white, teal/white, grey/white
Grand Bazaar in two colors ways with matching coordinating prints for linings
Riley Blake - Lost and Found. I wanted to try these but wasn't sure if anyone else would like them so I only got a small amount to try.
Little green birds with matching tree print.

I have so many more from more seasonal holiday types to some unusual florals. Slowly, I will get things made and into my shops.

This year I decided to give a go at starting a newsletter. Not that I am much of a writer. I was planning to use it as a chance to show off new designs or fabrics, or even share special coupon codes. If you are interested in my newsletter sign up here. I don't plan on sending them out very often. Probably more like a quarterly type thing.
